Celebration of National Girl Child Day

NSS Units, Women Development Cell and Cultural Club of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurugram celebrated “National Girl Child Day” on 24th January 2024 to create awareness about the rights of the girl child, to remove gender-based bias and education of girl child. 252 students participated in the celebration activities. The celebration activities were in line with the year’s theme, “Digital Generation, Our Generation, Our Time is Now—Our Rights, Our Future.”
The event was also dignified by the presence of Prof. (Dr.) Isha Malhotra (Principal, DCE), Dr. Ashok Kumar, Ms. Pooja Sharma and Dr. Anupam Dalal (NSS Program Officers and Faculties, DCE.)
The day was celebrated to spread awareness about the inequalities faced by girls in Indian society, and also to promote awareness about the rights of the girl child and the importance of female education, health, and nutrition. The day is in line with various campaigns and programs of the Indian government including Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and Save the Girl Child.
An address by Prof. (Dr.) Isha Malhotra (Principal, DCE) urged the students to work on following objectives and ignite as many people as possible:
- To increase the consciousness of the people and offer new opportunities to the girl child in society.
- To remove all the inequalities faced by the girl child.
- To ensure that the girl child should get all their human rights, respect, and value in the country.
- To work on gender discrimination, and to educate people.
- To work against diminishing child sex ratio in India and change the mind of the people regarding girls as children.
- To increase awareness about the importance and role of the girl child.
- To provide opportunities to girls for their betterment.
- To educate people about the health and nutrition of girls.
- To provide equal rights and allow them to move to any part of the country.
Afterwards, Painting competition was conducted. Girl Students from institute participated in the event. The Painting competition saw the artistic nature of the participants.
The event ended with the thanks giving speech by Dr. Anupam Dalal followed by giving certificates to the winners.
Benefits/Outcome: the celebration ignited the girl students towards their rights and also helped towards elimination of gender based biases from the society.
